About the author
Kevin Bush
A memoir is only as honest as the person who writes it.
In his own words
Why I wrote this book
"If one husband becomes more emotionally present, one father breaks a generational cycle, or one family begins healing because of this story — then writing it was worthwhile."
For most of my life, I believed I was a good husband, father, and provider. I worked hard, loved my family, and thought I was doing everything I was supposed to do. What I failed to understand was that the people I loved most often experienced me differently than I experienced myself.
When my marriage reached its breaking point, I faced a decision that countless people encounter but few are prepared for. I could continue blaming circumstances and hoping everything would somehow work itself out, or I could honestly examine the man I had become. That examination changed everything.
Rather than writing from the perspective of an expert looking back with all the answers, I write as someone who has walked through failure, accountability, forgiveness, and the ongoing process of transformation. My willingness to tell the truth about my own shortcomings gives readers permission to examine their own lives with honesty and hope.
I wrote this book for anyone who has ever felt lost and wondered if they'd ever find their way back. And for every husband, father, or man who loves his family deeply but struggles to show it in ways they can truly receive.
The story behind the story
A life in chapters
The foundation
Kevin Bush grew up in Alabama, adopted into a family that loved him well. Though love was present, emotional expression was limited — patterns that would quietly shape every relationship in the decades ahead.
The career
Over thirty years in construction safety and operations leadership, Kevin built a career around developing people, solving complex challenges, and leading teams under pressure. He learned that the greatest challenges are rarely technical — they are personal.
The unraveling
When his marriage reached a breaking point, Kevin was forced to confront a question he had spent decades avoiding: How could someone who loved his family so deeply make them feel so alone? That question became the beginning of the hardest journey of his life.
The book
Through counseling, prayer, Scripture, and a renewed relationship with Jesus Christ, Kevin began discovering that genuine change is possible. The Long Way Home is the result — a memoir written with unflinching honesty and the hard-won wisdom of someone who kept going anyway.
